Freelancers Work with Public Relations

Did you remember your life then without the Internet? I am sure a lot of us are really thankful for this technological advancement. Because if we don’t have the Internet then we won’t have online freelancers around. :)

Before the Internet was introduced to millions of people worldwide, we only have the basic media outlets for exposing some products and services. We have TV, Radio and Print that work well until now. Then comes some outdoor, transit and below the line advertising. Those additional channels made the traditional ones unique.

But now that we have all these blogs everywhere, thus the number of freelancers continue to grow. This has also changed the way we look at freelancers. Before only ex-corporate guys can claim this title when they go solo.

Noisy Dogs and Freelancing at Home

by admin on June 19, 2009
in Freelance Issues

They just don’t go well together.

We have two dogs in the house, both are very good watch dogs. And you know what that means: they love to bark!

perfecto-insectoWhen you’re working at home, trying to meet your deadlines, the noise of two dogs barking at every Dick and Harry that walks past your front door is a complete annoyance. I still wonder how I ever get my job done when my two lovable dogs are at their barking’s best.

But sometimes I just can’t work at all. You know the feeling, when you have a hard task ahead of you and there’s an irritating noise that just wouldn’t seem to end. Sometimes I wish I could put a muzzle on their snouts so they would just stop barking. But that wouldn’t be right. I know my limitations. :)

I went to the mall yesterday and bought a pair of ear plugs. I intend to wear it whenever my dogs are at it barking again. I just hope these plugs will work woders for me.

Long, Productive Vacation

Today, when you talk to a person and told them that you are a freelancer they will think that you are comfortably working in your home, wearing that favorite pajamas.

Or, they might think that you have all the time in the world, after all, you are not confined to work within the 9-5 schedule.

What can you say about that? :)

Based from my experience, being a freelancer does not only limit you on the venue where you should work. Many freelancers are also having the time of their life while working outside of their homes, of course doing the job that they love.

Just like what happened to me. Years ago, when I had the chance to take a long vacation, a former client offered me to be a part of their two-week project.

Consistent Online Presence

internet-connectionEvery online freelancer should keep a consistent presence on the web since our business depends on it. But what will you do if you have concerns in your web hosting?

That is my pressing concern nowadays because I noticed that there were numerous instances that some of my blogs went down. I don’t mind if it happened once or twice, but sometimes the intervals are so close that it bothered me a lot. It will be bad for my ‘online freelancing business’.

You may have been thinking of doing some freelance work in the past few days. You may have been day dreaming about it, spending almost every moment pondering on how and where to start your dream job.

So you started to enhance your skills, searched for some samples of your work and created some more in case your client asks for it.

Now that you have your portfolio, you started to reach out and promote your services. You do it all day and night, while waiting for your first project.

And then clients started to knock your contact form, sending you some messages, inquiring for more information.

Isn’t it exciting? It should be, that’s what you want in the first place right?

I’m sorry to burst your bubble, but before you get yourself working for other people, you must remember one thing. :)

Easy Money in Freelance Work?

by admin on June 12, 2009
in Freelance Issues

moneyathandI just recently met a former co-worker and we got into a little chit-chat. When I told her about some of my freelancing stints, she mentioned how much interested she was in getting into freelancing. She believes it is faster to earn money through it.

That was a red flag for me then.

I did not mean to disappoint her but I already told her the truth. Yes, I work for clients on weekends, I had my share of online and offline freelance gigs but this was not an easy money.

Got Another Set of Work Today

by admin on June 11, 2009
in Freelancing Opportunities

I love this day! :)

A client asked me to do some promotion tasks for his website. If you remembered some of my posts, I shared to you about the twitter website promotion project that I have. Well, I am still working on it now, since the client liked the job that I am doing for her.

But this is a different task. This is to promote a website using another social marketing platform. Well, he gave me a week to learn the ropes because the site works to promote a website in a lot of ways. I am very excited because this client is deeply concerned about the quality of my work that he wanted me to learn on how to do it my way while also conforming to his guidelines on how to expose his business.

I hope that a lot of clients will be like these two. They have a very professional and dynamic approach to do things like promoting their businesses. :)

More on My Favorite Book

by admin on June 10, 2009

In my previous post in which I listed my favorite books, I included Sherlock Holmes. What I wasn’t able to identify is the specific book in that series. Well, because it’s mostly just that, Sherlock Holmes short stories just collected into compilation books so I couldn’t pinpoint what book I especially liked.

But there’s one story that stood out and up to now, still one of my favorite tales. It’s “The Hound of the Baskervilles”. I have heard of that story years before I actually picked up a copy and read it from page one to the last. What I didn’t know was that it was another Sherlock Holmes mystery. At first I thought it was a horror/supernatural story, but I had an inkling while I was still in the first pages that everything could be explained logically and scientifically. After all, it was Sherlock Holmes.

The Sun Shines Bright Today

by admin on June 10, 2009

Quite literally. I’m sorry if you were expecting something more poetic from that title. :)

It’s just that when I opened my eyes this morning, the sun’s bright rays were beaming through my room’s open windows. It just so happened that I had drawn the drapes wide open last night, forgetting to close it when I went to bed.

But I was sure glad that I did.

The 5 Books that I Enjoyed Reading

by admin on June 7, 2009
in Uncategorized

Here are the five books that I’ve enjoyed reading. All of these are classics and I’ve read them years before. I haven’t read a novel in the past two years but I intend to do so soon.

:)

1. Around the World in 80 Days

This is one of the best page-turners that I read. I had a great time imagining the adventures of Mr. Phileas Fogg and his sidekick, Passepartout.

2. Sherlock Holmes

This London-based detective is the best-written character of all time. He’s the only drug-addicted, loner, introverted, and unkempt protagonist that I would ever root for.
