How much do you value your freelance work?
I just can’t help but to react to this question as I came across a thread in a local forum. Someone is looking for an article rewriter and the ‘client’ is willing to pay $1.20 per rewritten article of 800 words.
Okay, the rate was low. But what I read next was the real shocker.
You will not do any research at all . Rewriting does not mean simply supplying synonyms and interchanging the paragraphs. You need to paraphrase the whole thing. A good writer can rewrite on in 15 minutes
I have worked for some foreign and local clients who asked me to rewrite their articles. Guess I was lucky enough that they gave me a reasonable time to finish those projects.
This is the first time I read the impression of how fast a writer can rewrite a quality article. While I agree that rewriting work goes beyond replacing some words in the text, I still don’t feel comfortable with the idea that someone can produce a quality rewritten 800 word article in that span of time.
How about you?

I completely agree with you – 15 minutes is ridiculous, as is the payment mentioned. But that is what a lot of clients do – devise an arbitrary time frame (based on God know’s what!) and then justify the payment ont he grounds that is is only 15 minutes work. I guess that these people need 15 minutes to read and understand 800 words and so they think that re-writing it also takes the same time. The saddest aprt of it all is that there are people who are willing to accept these kinds of terms. Their reasons are varied but in my case I know thatt freelancers in India, where I live, accept these rates because, although they produce excellent work, they feel that they have to be happy with “third world” payment rates and terms.
800 words in 15 min? I don’t think that is realistic. Sometimes it can take me days to rewrite my articles. I guess I am slow.
I don’t think that’s very realistic either. I’d say a half hour and really it depends on what the subject matter is too I think.
